Spring 2008
This semester, our Newport site was led by Jonathan Rexrode. It was located at the Giles County Technology Center, a new location from previous classes. We had six weekly sessions over an eight week period thanks to weather. Our classroom was equipped with several nice desktops along with a SMART Board.
Teaching the Basics
Our classes were focused on teaching the basics about using computers, the internet, and Microsoft Office.
We gave a lesson in one of these topics for the majority of each class, and dedicated the remaining time to answer any general computer questions the students had. If these end-of-class questions were relevant to the entire class and were important to the everyday use of computers, we attempted to address them more in depth for the next class. This led to a very good session about storing information on media such as flash drives or CDs.
For our final session, we used information learned in previous classes to download a file from the internet, and use Excel to modify and add graphs to that file.
